The Return of Hallow’s End

World of Warcraft Hallow's End Holiday Event

Holy shite!  It’s once again time for the Hallow’s End holiday event in World of Warcraft…YAAAAAAAAY!

Without question, this is BY FAR by favorite time of year in the game, and I always participate to the fullest.  (Unfortunately, though, I have yet to score the Horseman’s damn mount, despite so many years of trying.  Perhaps this will be the year that I finally get that Warlock-appropriate steed.)

Anyways, be sure to log in and soak up the groovy Halloween atmosphere — especially around the brilliant Tirisfal Glades zone.

The Cabin in the Woods

I have many reasons as to why The Secret World is so great, but one of them is the geek-culture references you’ll stumble upon while adventuring through the game’s incredibly interesting world.  Take for example the following establishment, located in a demon and undead inhabited patch of woods known as the “Ash Forest”:

Hmmm…doesn’t this place look familiar?

YES!  A cabin extremely reminiscent of the one in Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead films…in the “ASH Forest”…surrounded by the undead…with a chainsaw lodged in the door frame:

A chainsaw? I wonder who this could possibly belong too?

The Secret World Profiles

I guess Funcom secretly added them, ’cause I only discovered today that groovy character profile pages have recently been added to the TSW site:

http://chronicle.thesecretworld.com/character/Miyavi

That’s my character, but the picture on that page (under “Deck Completion”) is just some generic placeholder, NOT what my toon actually looks like.  Ugh.

I always try to keep my enthusiasm in-check during the honeymoon phase with a new MMO, and I also try to refrain from working too “blue” when writing for the site, but I fucking love The Secret World(Henceforth referred to as TSW.)

In case you’ve missed it, FunCom’s new MMO, The Secret World, has officially launched.  The game has flown under the radar a bit, but I’ve really been looking forward to it, as it’s FunCom’s attempt at producing an MMO that isn’t another copy of World of Warcraft.  (And it’s not based around high-fantasy — mega-yay!)

I’ve been downloading the 14.4GB client for a few hours now, so I obviously haven’t played it yet, but I’ve read many good things about it.  From the feedback I’ve seen, it seems like FunCom pulled off something special here, and even though I’m really hoping that’s the case, I’m trying to keep my expectations low.  (I’ve been burned too many times before on MMOs to be much of a “glass half full” kind of guy.)
